Muddy Waters Gran Fondo - Great day for a great event!

Muddy Waters Gran Fondo - Great day for a great event!Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg's Muddy Waters Gran Fondo took place on Sunday, August 7, 2011 during a perfect summer day. The Forks Scotia Stage was once again the starting and finishing venue which saw over 300 participants from all age groups and cycling levels enjoy Manitoba's best community cycling event.

This year's event was supported by many sponsors and supporters, as well as 40 volunteers. A huge thank you goes to all our supporters who helped make the event day a success, with special recognition to the event's safety sponsor- Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) and also to Maple Leaf as the supporting sponsor. A hot, light meal and salads were provided by Naleway Caterers and Trapped in Dough (an appetizer company). The event was also supported by four Winnipeg bike shops that supplied energy filled, nutritious snacks at the rest stops along each route.

Muddy Waters Gran Fondo raised over $30,000 for Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg to help build more affordable homes for low-income working families in need. Fundraising continues until the end of this August when the final tally will be determined.

Thank you all for your support and dedication to this wonderful event!

*Note: It is with great sadness we mention that a 100 mile ride participant, John Reid passed away before the event. John joined the Muddy Waters event last year and was determined to surpass his previous fundraising total. He was an out-going, exuberant man who made an immediate impression on those that met him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Reid family on the loss of their husband, father, and grandfather.
