our impact
By working with local communities to meet their housing needs, we also help them solve many other problems. With a stable home and fixed address, residents have access to better health care, education, employment opportunities and community services.
The impacts of Habitat’s affordable homeownership program are broad, deep and long-lasting. Habitat homeowners gain more than an affordable home: they drive social and financial gains that strengthen their lives, put their children on a path to success, build inclusive communities, and bolster Canada’s economy. The program is an effective response to Canada’s housing and productivity crises and an important contributor to a healthy housing system. The benefits continue across generations.
We have now been in the same home for 10 years, which has been the longest I have lived anywhere in my life. I am no longer afraid of being evicted, and knowing we are safe and secure in our home is the greatest feeling of all. Without Habitat I would never have had the opportunity to become a homeowner. My eternal gratitude to this amazing organization for helping people such as myself [with] a hand up, not a hand out, to become a homeowner, and to give my kids a safe home to grow up in.
